g_space is a comprehensive design firm that has been in service for 19 years. We embrace the practical nature of the physical environment along with the conceptual nature of aesthetics and fine art. We are a team of architects, artists, carpenters, and graphic designers, who interact and draw on one another's strengths in order to provide dynamic and refined design.
g_space is a synthesis, a team effort, which seeks to create the extraordinary from the ordinary.
Architecture
Our approach to architectural design starts with prudent research into the problems of aesthetic expression, function, and economy, evolving into three dimensional computer models and other spatial studies. The floor plans are then the result of these spatial studies of which in turn inform the 3d models. This cycle is maintained throughout the design process and detailing of buildings and spaces producing a rich, multi-layered spatial experience.
Yet, what does architecture mean? Since, so few buildings of any substantial age still house their original programs or convey the meaning initially intended, the question we ask is: What then makes a work timeless? Frederik St. Jernfelt points out: "the inherent sacrality of architecture might seem to derive from its metaphysics, from its pretension of being a structure endowed with sense, an aesthetic, unambiguous or functional body. It is quite the contrary: its holiness depends on the fact that it always transcends these determinations."
Our work explores the paradox that architecture is always born out of some need for order, to shelter and protect, yet its vitality is in an inability to make such distinctions between order vs chaos or inside vs outside. The architecture is in fact empty and meaningless, and tends to celebrate this unpredictability, allowing movement and multiplicity. The space comes alive when it is occupied and the events that occur within provide meaning to the occupants. This collective memory of events creates an ever shifting meaning that the community brings to the architectural space.
So rather than, What does architecture mean? we ask: What can architecture contribute to a community?
Master Planning
We approach master planning from an experiential perspective. Our large scale site planning is generated from pedestrain experience, always allowing for green space and minimizing the environmental impact.
The current phenomenon of large scale, prefabricated growth has tended to isolate people fromn one another. We attempt to create spaces that encourage community and interaction. Our spaces facillitate communal events and experiences, allowing for people to meet per chance.
Our approach seeks to maintain and emphasize the unique qualities the each site has to offer in order to create a distinct, yet natural, environment endowed with its own identity.
Design Build
A service provided by g_space LLC (architects) and MNB constructs LLC (contractors)
Design-build has emerged as a means to bridge the widening gap that currently exists between the architectural process and the construction process. Rather than rigidly laying out every design element in the abstract before any ground is broken, design-build allows for freedom and spontaneity and creativity in addressing issues that arise during the construction process.
As the project culminates there exists a dance, or symbiosis, rather than a battle between two seperate entities. Adjustments can be made seemlessly and with consideration to the integrity of the structure's original premise.
To date, g_space has completed multiple design-build projects, both commercial and residential, rennovations and ground-ups.
Graphics
We approach graphics with the same attention to detail that we apply to our other endevours. We seek to work with our clients to develop images that engage and intrigue, while communicating the intended message or information.
